Nasce a Shangai nel 1955.
Dal 1981, Wenda Gu ha partecipato a numerose mostre in tutto il mondo. I paesi che hanno esposto il suo lavoro includono Cina, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Giappone, Corea, Israele, Australia, Germania, Norvegia, Francia, Russia, Paesi Bassi, Italia, Gran-Bretagna, Messico, Svizzera, Svezia, Africa del sud, Polonia, Canada e Stati Uniti.

Lascia la Cina nel 1987 e diventa una figura di spicco nel circuito internazionale dell'Arte. Wenda Gu e' diventato uno dei membri di alto-profilo del diaspora cinese. Vive a New York.

Giornali e riviste internazionali come: New York Time, Los Angeles Time, Wall Street Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Inspector, Village Voice, Vogue, Esquire, etc. si sono occupati del suo lavoro.
